This is awesome. I bought this book for my friend but before I could give it to him, I decided to read the first few pages. Then that turned into “Ok, only couple more pages.” Finished the book in one night!
Im not about to say I’m a hardcore punk, but I still remember how hard it was to find friends in 4th and 5th grade when I was listening to early green day and The Clash and playing bass with my brother on guitar and our neighbor on drums. We didnt even have a drumset! We had a snare and some broken childrens electric set that we hooked up through the speakers. No drum sticks eather. We used penciles. We were self taught and and had huge dreams. Then in jr high we started getting noticed after we played on the radio in a contest. We went through 5 drummers and 2 guitarists in 3 years and met countless assholes and pushy parents whose only goal was to make their children famous.
I dont play anymore and hardly talk to my old bandmates besides my brother. I might not know obscure bands to name drop in a conversation but The best time in my music career was playing with Jimmy and Jordan in our small garage on summer nights. We had so much fun and hope and we truely loved music. To me thats punk rock.
Charles Eastman said “speech is of necessity feeble and imperfect” I think in music today, more people are talking and less are listening. So there it is.
Cant wait to see the film.
Who will be doing the casting in Seattle for supporting/day player parts?
