Matthew letting his douchebag flag fly as Daniel Frye on The Bridge

Hello Officer Friendly and Officer Frosty!

The New Yorker’s Emily Nussbaum singled out Matthew and his co-star Emily Rios for their review of The Bridge in an article about television crime shows, “Clue”.
“[On The Bridge] Other characters do make an impression, but they’re not the mismatched cops but the mismatched reporters: Daniel Frye, played by Matthew Lillard, letting his douchebag flag fly (and calling the detectives Officer Friendly and Officer Frosty), and the stand out Emily Rios, as Adriana Mendez, a dry-witted lesbian from a sprawling Mexican family of sisters and female cousins. As the duo bicker and bond, they suggest more about the complex entitlement of Anglos and the culture of Jaurez, where women are tugged into whirlpools of danger, than anything else on the show. Their scenes are also funny and surprising, lacking the dot-to-dot feel of other dialogue.”

Each week we really enjoy reading The Bridge recaps from Andy Greenwald at Grantland.
Be sure to read them for an indepth review of the episode after it has aired, there will be spoilers otherwise but it also takes a look at the series as a whole, so is an unmissable read. Here’s one of our favourite quotes from Andy’s Episode 5 review, The Beast.

“Last night also proved my developing theory that no one perks up at the thought of playing a burnout quite like Matthew Lillard. He embodies Daniel Frye with the right mix of coked-up confidence and hangover-avoiding mania. The scenes he shares with Demián Bichir exhibit more chemistry than the inside of Frye’s medicine cabinet.”

Matthew also attended the Fox TCA party in Hollywood on the first of August, we have a few pictures added in the gallery.

The Bridge wrapped in early August, to celebrate the end of filming, a Mariachi band played at V Lounge whilst Diane Kruger and Demian Bichir thanked the hard-working crew as they all celebrated with cocktails galore, documenting their evening in a special photobooth!
Carlos Pratts who plays Marco Ruiz’ son Gus shared a few photos of the evening including this great one with Matthew and Eric Lange, he also shared this one with Matthew on set of The Bridge. Thank you Carlos and we really enjoy seeing you on the show as Gus!
